I agree with the first post. I have a lot of reluctant parents who just can't get with the concept of play-based learning. http://kindercaring.blogspot.com/

One of the preschools where I teach is a parent-run cooperative program. By working in the classrooms alongside the teachers, parents learn to value and find meaning in play by observing teacher-child interactions and from direct teacher comments, and they are usually supportive of play at preschool! The Everyday Exchange e-newsletter, http://www.childcareexchange.com/eed/archive.php, has many brief articles on play, often quoting from a larger work.

Children are so like a sponge. They take everything in especially with their play. Whether parents realize it or not, we just have to keep doing what we are doing. Unless a parent actually takes an early childhood class on "Play is their education" they may not get it.

Do your parents understand that play is learning or do they just think kids play. I have written detailed letters to parents and they still think kids play.
